Resistance and Survival: The Jewish Community of Kaunas, 1941-1944, by Sara Ginaite-Rubinson

Resistance and Survival: The Jewish Community of Kaunas, 1941-1944, by Sara Ginaite-Rubinson, documents the author’s experience during World War Two in the Lithuanian town of Kaunas (often called Kovno in Jewish sources).

But the book is far more than this; after the war Ginaite-Rubison was a scholar, so this book explores the wider story of Jews in Lithuania during the war.   The author shows great resilience  during the war as a partisan fighter, taking an active part in overthrow of the German invaders.

Her memoir contains moments of great triumph and terrible loss and grief; it demonstrates the innumerable ways a person can fight oppression despite horrible deprivation.
