I continue to tepidly endorse Margaret Atwood’s Maddadm post-apocalyptic trilogy, here,
on book two.
The Year of the Flood continues
where Oryx and Crake left off,
sometimes to its detriment. As much as
Snowman in book one is a disreputable character, he at least had a certain charm and flare. The Earth Cult in this novel has no one to
take his place, so the pace is slow, and it takes a very long time to
distinguish the characters. One must be patient.
Yet I read on, because there is just enough here to keep the
reader satisfied. Atwood can write, and
although she disappoints here with a sluggish plot-line, the hope of more and
better carries the day.
